Underage fake ID users, banned at age 18

People using fake IDs could be given an exclusion notice, banning them from pubs, clubs and restaurants for 12 months once they become 18.

After a spike in the number of people using fake IDs, Brighton and Hove Police have issued a warning to people about underage drinking and the potential new punishment.

Fraudulent identity documents can be seized and retained by police. Any passports being used by people other than the holder can also be seized and returned to the passport office.

Parents have also been encouraged to make sure they know where their children are at the weekends and to talk to them about underage drinking.

A spokesman for the police force said: "We are continuing to see underage drinking at the weekends, a rise in young people using fake IDs to try to enter licensed premises and a rise in children under 16 being out and about late at night unsupervised.

"We love seeing and engaging with young people when they’re out, but we want them to make the most of our fantastic city safe and sober.
