Modern Slavery - Private Sector Network - Pilot meeting

Sussex Police are seeking to work more effectively with the private sector in terms of the strategic national priority of Modern Slavery. Below is an invitation for businesses to attend a pilot meeting from Sussex Police.

As you will know, every UK Company with a turnover of £36m or greater are required to articulate how they address Modern Slavery in their supply chain in a published Modern Slavery statement.      (S.54 Modern slavery Act 2015)

Recent experiences have demonstrated that whilst companies produce comprehensive statements and continue due diligence activities with their suppliers, who may be in several international countries, there is a real vulnerability closer to home.

There are examples of where Organised Crime networks pursue relationships with companies to introduce exploited workers into lower level sub-contracted services.

Recent consultation leads us to believe that there are three areas of mutual benefit:

  1. Increased knowledge of Organised crime infiltration into business

  2. Increased interoperability and vigilance between businesses

  3. Improved and reliable reporting pathways to law enforcement.

In support of this, we have collaborated with RICARDO PLC to provide a pilot network meeting to discuss these areas.  We are offering a NO-COST pilot meeting to talk about vulnerability, have the opportunity to hear from Modern Slavery experts and to explore the advantages of creating and maintaining a network of businesses with a significant SUSSEX footprint.

We would encourage director / senior level colleagues in your business with responsibility for procurement, sustainability or ethical trading to attend.

To limit the impact on your work calendars, this pilot will be a breakfast meeting hosted at RICARDO Centenary Innovation centre on:

THURSDAY 4th April 2019.   (08:00 – 10:00)            (Coffee and refreshments from 07:30)
