Home Secretary calls for new thinking
Savid Javid has called for a ‘shift in government mindset’ to tackle youth violence and knife crime.
A year after the launch of the government’s Serious Violence Strategy he said he wants to see better policy coordination over knife attacks treating the issue like the ‘outbreak of a virulent disease using data to get a better understanding of the causes of knife crime.
This is a policy that has shown great success in Scotland but it took a decade to make a serious dent in knife crime statistics. This comes at a time when a YouGov poll shows that crime has overtaken worries about the health service as the public’s major concern.
