Job Title: Crime Reduction Field Officer [this is a civilian position]

Location: Brighton, Hove & Portslade

Report to: Sarah Morris: Day-time Intelligence Manager.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Salary: £21,000 - £24,000 p.a. depending on experience & qualifications

Holidays: 32 days per annum which includes 8 public holidays

Pension: Auto enrolment pension [NEST] with employee and employer contributions.                            

Supplementary: Interest free loan available for annual travel ticket

Brighton and Hove Business Forum Ltd is a private company based in Brighton Police Station working closely with Sussex Police and a range of other partners to address business crime.

The company administers the Brighton & Hove Business Crime Reduction Partnership [BCRP] which is a membership organisation in established in 1998. It currently has over 500 business members across Brighton, Hove and Portslade. It is one of the largest BCRPs in the UK. Working in both the day-time and night-time economies, it operates a city-wide radio network allowing members to exchange live intelligence about criminal activity. It also administers an exclusion notice scheme banning offenders from all of our member’s premises and a secure intranet where members and partners can access photos and intelligence about known offenders via personal computers or a smartphone app. It offers a range of other services including accreditation, training and data analysis of criminal activity.

Main Purpose of Role:

 ·      The successful candidate will spend a lot of time out of the office visiting members in their venues in the city.

·      To assist with the development of the business crime reduction partnership addressing the issues of both the day-time and evening/night-time economies

·      To grow and develop BCRP membership

·      To assist Business Crime Managers to discharge their duties.

·      Assist with exclusion notice schemes

·      To represent the BCRP at external meetings with stakeholders


Main Responsibilities

 1.        Present, promote and sell the products/services of the BCRP. This is to include visits to local high-harm areas in the city to encourage businesses to join the BCRP partnership across both the daytime economy and the night time economy.

2.        Establish, develop & maintain positive business relations by regularly visiting current and prospective members of the BCRP to offer reassurance, advice and support and to collect intelligence about local criminal activity.

3.        Monitor live transmissions on the BCRP radio network across the daytime & night-time economies. Retrospective monitoring of weekend radio traffic during the following week. Follow up incidents of note with visits and further investigation.

4.        Assist with outstanding investigations to support Sussex Police Investigation & Resolution Centre. This would entail support for statement taking, CCTV collection and collation of evidence and translating intelligence reports from members into crime reports [you will be given training for this].

5.        Support the Night Safe and Daytime managers in intelligence collection and then support those businesses / areas to effectively report crimes.

6.        Work with the Intelligence Managers to support the Business Crime Plan.

7.        Monitor intelligence reports from our members to identify those members/users that need training, working alongside the current BCRP support officer.

8.        Delivery of equipment to members and training members in the use of our intelligence platforms [DISC and SentrySIS] and the radio network [you will be given training for this]

9.        Build community relations between businesses in areas that are not utilising the BCRP scheme.

10.     Support with the preparation, delivery and record keeping of membership meetings for both daytime and night time economies

11.     On an occasional basis, assist with the delivery of the Friday night security briefing alongside the Night Safe manager and Sussex Police. This is a 15-minute presentation in a city centre location delivered to night time economy members and security personnel at 21:30 on Friday evenings.
