LIVE STREAM CRIMES DIRECT TO THE POLICE

Witnesses to crimes in Gwent are being asked to call 999 and then allow the police access to their mobile phones so that the crimes can be streamed in live time to the call handlers at the police station.

The 999eye software that allows the streaming can also tap into the phones GPS coordinates giving the handlers an exact location of the crime. It is thought that the software cost something in the region of £70,000 per annum to licence.

The pilot project went live at the start of the month and has already been used to record an incident of domestic violence and theft from a vehicle.
