On the
Tracks
On the Tracks brings together local youth workers, transport teams, police, and businesses to keep young people safe and protect public spaces in Brighton & Hove.
Led by the BCRP and funded by the GTR Improvement Fund , this project was created as a direct response to rising anti-social behaviour and large youth gatherings along the seafront. We noticed many of the young people were travelling by train, unsupported, so we’ve partnered with Trust For Developing Communities to deploy friendly, approachable youth teams to meet the young people directly on train routes, at the station, and along the beach. Offering a welcoming face, practical advice, and early help to ensure every young person’s trip to our city is safe.
Our Approach
On-Train Outreach
Trained, approachable youth workers travel along key train routes into Brighton & Hove. They engage young people in friendly, non-confrontational conversation, identifying vulnerabilities, de-escalating potential tension and offering guidance before groups even reach Brighton station platform.
Our teams maintain a high-visibility, reassuring presence at Brighton Station and along the seafront. By meeting young people directly at key gathering spots, we provide a safe point of contact, offer practical advice, and deter anti-social behaviour in high-traffic public areas.

Business and Community Safeguarding
We work directly with local traders, seafront venues, transport staff, and police using the BCRP network to share real-time intelligence and resolve issues early. By de-escalating potential anti-social behaviour before it impacts businesses, we maintain a safe, welcoming environment for staff and visitors.

On the Tracks is a joint effort bringing together expertise in youth engagement, transport operations, and community safety. By sharing intelligence and coordinating resources across sectors, we create a unified safety net that extends from train carriages right down to the beach.
A Joined-Up Approach
Every week, hundreds of young people travel into Brighton & Hove via the rail network to enjoy the seafront. But when large gatherings lead to anti-social behaviour, both vulnerable youth and local businesses pay the price.
On the Tracks changes this story. By meeting young people where their journeys begin, on the tracks. Our youth teams step in before issues escalate. We combine early intervention with visible support, mobilising and empowering our partnership network to ensure our city remains a vibrant, safe, and welcoming space for everyone.
