Hit and run in Kings Road

A pedestrian was stuck by a car that had mounted the pavement in Kings Road at 05:20 on Sunday morning.

A grey Honda Civic exited the junction with Black Lion Street before veering across the pavement hitting a pedestrian before it hit the terrace outside The Ship Hotel and came to rest. The car was then abandoned by three men who ran away.

Two were later arrested; a 23-year-old man from Croydon was detained on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated vehicle taking, assault, drunk driving, driving without a licence and failing to stop after a road accident and a man aged 26 from Sutton, Surrey was detained on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. Both have been released under investigation.

The incident appears to have been as a result of an altercation between two groups of men. The man who was struck by the vehicle ran away and has yet not come forward to contact police.
