Stabbing in Brighton

Police are seeking a person who took video footage of a serious incident in Brighton in early November.

Police officers were called to Montpelier Place on 04 November at 22:15 after reports of up to 20 men fighting in the street near the Montpelier Inn public house.

A 40-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being stabbed and was taken to hospital. He is recovering but still needs extensive care at home.

Now detectives want to find the person who took a photograph of the incident, and a black man with dreadlocks wearing a tan coloured shoulder bag.

The incident has already led to the arrest of six men held on suspicion of attempted murder, including four 18-year-olds, a 19-year-old, and a 57-year-old, all from the city. They have been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

Previous concerns have been raised about The Montpelier Inn. The council ordered the pub to shut for three months following the incident but it occurred on the final night before the last lockdown so part of that period was academic.

Police told a council meeting drugs were found at the premises and bags with class A drugs were found in drip trays under beer pumps. Also “deal lists” and drugs paraphernalia such as scales were found there. The council had considered revocation of the licence but the pub is now under new management.

Anyone with information should call 101 or report to Sussex Police online quoting Operation Moorcroft.
