The BCRPs 12 crime prevention days of Christmas - Day 1

Welcome to day 1 of the BCRPs '12 Crime Prevention Days of Christmas'. We wanted to do something to mark the festive season and what better way than introducing you to some of our key partners that help us, help you reduce crime and disorder across the city. Over the next 12 days, we’re going to be showcasing just some of our fantastic partners and giving you an insight into how they work and what they do to help keep the city safe.

We’re going to kick things off by sharing a little more about…. the BCRP!

Meet the BCRP

What is a BCRP?

The Brighton and Hove Business Crime Reduction Partnership is a subscription-based, business-led, non-profit making action group. We perform a valuable function as part of local community efforts to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour which affects businesses, their staff, customers and the community. We do this work by working together with our members and partner agencies, such as Sussex Police and the local Council, sharing intelligence and securing support to address harmful offending behaviours.

How does the BCRP work?

Our members are made up of both daytime and night time economy businesses and we have a specialist lead manager to cover each economy to ensure a prompt service and representation. We provide our members with the vital necessary to protect their businesses from crime and anti-social behaviour.

  • Members communicate with one another via the CityLink radio – alerting other businesses to suspicious activity or individuals causing issues in the city.

  • Members submit reports on individuals causing issues within their business to the BCRP via DISC

  • The BCRP process these reports and may share the information for others to see in the DISC galleries. We may then work with partner agencies to address the behaviour of the individual

  • The BCRP submit warning letters to those causing concern to the business community and if a threshold is reached, we may then issue exclusion papers. We may also work with police to get further sanctions on an individual, such as a Criminal behaviour Order or Community Protection Notice. Our work with police also covers collating intelligence as part of a wider remit to address emerging issues in the city.

All of this is working towards:

  • increasing business profitability by providing businesses with the tools they need to reduce crime, the fear of crime, stock losses and anti-social behaviour (ASB)

  • Working in partnership with key agencies across the city from the police to the council and the charity sector with unique sharing agreements and ensuring business needs are at the forefront of policies

  • Creating a safer environment for our members, their staff and the community.

The Brighton & Hove BCRP is one of the largest in the UK (by membership) and at a time of reducing resources and increasing demands on Sussex Police, the BCRP has an ever more vital role to play in preventing and reducing crime and disorder in the city.
