The BCRPs 12 crime prevention days of Christmas - day 7
For day 7, let’s talk licensing.
Our local licensing team currently consists of a licensing Inspector, a Sgt, two PCs and 4 non-uniformed members of staff. As part of their role within Sussex Police, the licensing team visit Licensed Premises to carry out full licensing inspections/visits and follow up enquiries, this includes pubs, night clubs, hotels, restaurants, cafes, premises with late -night refreshments, music and community festivals, and convenience stores to ensure adherence to conditions on the respective premises licence.
They work in partnership with the Local Authority to share information, give prevention advice, problem solve and carry out joint visits across the city.
Licensing also work in conjunction with key external partners like the BCRP to promote safeguarding and trying to keep people safe, especially the vulnerable during the night time economy.
The licensing team work closely with the Security Industry Authority to ensure SIA security staff work professionally and in accordance with best practice, keeping in line with the Licensing Objectives.
They pre-consult with people by assessing applications and variations by offering advice that may assist with an application or variation being granted, this also applies to TENS and Event Plans.
Although the licensing team enforce conditions on licences and have a strong focus on making sure premises are complying with the four licensing objectives, they are always happy to be contacted to provide any advice on how people can make their venues safer.
If you need to contact police licensing, you can email them on Brighton.licensing@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
