Tougher sentences for drink spiking drugs

From tomorrow possession of the drink spiking drugs GHB, GBL and 1,4-BD will carry a maximum sentence of 5 years and 14 years for those involved in supply.

They were reclassified from a Class C to a Class B last year following an Independent Advisory Council on Misuse of Drugs Recommendation and the increased sentencing for possession and supply comes into force this week.

Home Secretary Pritti Patel said; “These drugs have been used to commit too may heinous crimes and it is right that sentences for those caught in possession of them reflect the damage they do”
