Molly Malone’s to reopen with conditions

The popular West Street pub, which lost its licence in August 2021, is due to reopen on Monday 30 May.

The pub, which is run by Indigo Pub Company, was closed after a violent incident involving a 16-year-old carrying out a violent attack in July last year. Elements of the criminal proceedings in that affair are still active and, as a consequence, the normally public hearings of the licensing committee were held in private.

At the time of the incident the licensing panel said that management failures and rogue security staff were to blame leading to “failures and longer-term issues” at the venue including allegations of sexual assault.

The reopening comes with conditions including that the venue must become a dedicated live music /cabaret venue. There must be retraining of door staff and general enhancement of security arrangements and there must now be a ‘last-entry’ time of 02:30 despite being allowed to stay open until 04:00.
