£1m for Safer Streets in Sussex

Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne has been awarded almost £1 million as part of the Government’s most recent round of Safer Streets funding.

This is the fifth round of the Safer Streets Fund and sees an additional £60million investment go towards improving public safety to tackle anti-social behaviour, neighbourhood crime and help to combat violence against women and girls.

The funding has been secured in Sussex for three projects:

To support the police to create eight new Victim Co-ordinator roles. To provide six licensed Safety Marshals (who are trained in vulnerability awareness, suicide prevention, mental health first aiders and level 3 medical first aid) on foot patrol in high visibility uniform. This funding will support the existing projects in Crawley & Brighton, with a new project being launched in Eastbourne, all administered by the Brighton BCRP. And finally, to support the modernisation of the CCTV system in Sussex and help local councils with the ongoing maintenance and installation costs.
