The BCRPs 12 crime prevention days of Christmas - day 12
Here it is – our final day of our 12 crime prevention days of Christmas! We hope that you’ve enjoyed discovering a little bit more about all the different partner agencies and how they all work together across the city to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
For our final topic we wanted to touch on Operation Marble. Operation Marble is the name for the ongoing policing operation that occurs every Friday and Saturday night. It runs from 11pm- 4am and cover the city centre from Western Road to St James’s Street.
Operation Marble sees police response officers patrolling the streets and responding to incidents that occur within the Marble area between these times. They also perform licensing checks and carry the BCRP NightSafe radio so they can be more aware of what is going on across the city and help venues and security with any incidents.
In order for the operation to be as effective as possible, there is a weekly meeting every Wednesday where information and intelligence from the previous weekend is brought to the table to helps form a plan of action for the weekend ahead. The BCRP attends this meeting alongside police licensing, neighbourhood police teams and a representative from the response officers who will be on shift during the operation. We discuss the arrests made the previous weekend and go through any individuals who we feel are causing the most harm to the night time economy, as well as any areas of interest that may have the most disorder occurring, allowing officers to focus their attention during the shifts in order to disrupt the activity and preventing further incidents.
We welcome feedback from our members as to who might be causing disorder for them and where they see any problem areas during the night time economy. Whilst police officers do patrol on Friday and Saturday nights, the night time economy extends far wider than this remit. Whilst police officers are there to support the community, they are a finite resource and can’t be everywhere at once. This is where our members come in to help – you are the eyes and ears on the ground and the intelligence provided by our members can help ensure that police resources are used as effectively and usefully as possible by helping to direct patrols and ensuring the correct areas are targeted to robustly disrupt criminal and anti-social behaviour and keep Brighton & Hove a safe place for all.
Our members can report to us by utilising our DISC system or by calling our duty phone and speaking to the NightSafe Manager .
