Night time venues threaten to sue
As the prospects of the timetabled unlocking look increasingly bleak, nightclubs and late night bars could sue the government if reopening in England is delayed beyond 21st June. Struggling venues that have been closed for over a year fear that they could go bust if they are not allowed to capitalise on a full summer of trading.
The Night Time Industries Association [NTIA] is rumoured to be weighing up legal action on behalf of venues that have already spent money preparing for a 21st unlocking. According to the NTIA 54% of businesses have already ordered their stock, 73% have called back staff and 60% have sold tickets for events or promotions.
UK Hospitality estimates that a four week delay in reopening would cost the hospitality sector £3bn in lost sales and 200,000 jobs would also be lost.
