Monday 10 November - Building Connections: Kicking Off Safer Business Action Week 2025

This week marks the start of Safer Business Action (SaBA) Week 2025, a national initiative led by the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) bringing together police, Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs), Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), and local businesses to tackle business and retail crime through partnership.

Across the country, SaBA Week highlights how collaboration between policing teams and business communities helps reduce harm, build trust, and create safer spaces for staff, customers, and residents alike.

Here in Brighton & Hove, we’re proud to join the national effort and to showcase what makes our city’s approach unique.

Our focus this week is simple: people first, partnership always.

People behind the partnership: Sgt Lauren Reid and PC Gina Baker have been instrumental partners of ours, advocating and showing up for businesses across the city through the day and night time economies. Always there to help.

At the Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), we believe that while technology and tools support our work, it’s the people behind them who make the biggest difference; the store teams sharing information, the outreach workers connecting with those in need, and the officers and marshals walking the streets to keep everyone safe.

Building Connections

Today, our theme is connection, the foundation of every safer community.

Throughout the day, PCSOs are visiting businesses across Kemptown and St James’s Street, listening, supporting, and building stronger relationships with local shop teams. These face-to-face conversations help ensure that every business feels part of Brighton’s safety network.

At the same time, BCRP Local Managers Sarah Morris and Kylie Wroe are hosting our Brighton Business Network Event, bringing together partners from Sussex Police, outreach services, and community organisations to share learning, celebrate successes, and build on our shared commitment to safety.

“Partnerships aren’t just systems, they’re people connecting, talking, and acting together to keep our communities safe.”

This week is about celebrating collaboration in action showing how communication, trust, and shared purpose create a city where everyone can thrive safely.

Follow along all week as we spotlight different areas of partnership working across Brighton & Hove, from outreach and retail engagement to night-time safety and beyond.
