Partnership Power: A Record Day of Arrests in Brighton
Yesterday showed the true strength of Brighton’s partnership approach; seven individuals wanted by police were arrested in a single day, the highest number we’ve seen to date.
This success was made possible because of our joined-up network: businesses, BID Ambassadors, Day Safety Marshals, our Field Officer, and MSU operators all worked together, sharing intelligence through the BCRPradio and DISC Instant Messenger. This enabled Sussex Police to act quickly and pick up outstanding individuals, six of whom were wanted for offences directly harming our business community, such as shoplifting and street-based anti-social behaviour.
How the Partnership Works
The Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) brings together over 500 members, Sussex Police, and the local authority to share intelligence, identify risks, and take coordinated action. Tools like DISC reporting forms and BCRP radio allow businesses to feed incidents into the system in real time.
From there, information is pulled into:
Brighton Intelligence Meetings (BIM) – where police, outreach, and support services review cases, spot patterns, and agree next steps.
Operation Apprentice – a joint initiative tackling repeat offending, ensuring prolific offenders are identified and dealt with.
DISC Intelligence Hub – where reports are collated, trends are monitored, and members receive live alerts via a secure GDPR compliant Instant Messaging service.
Every piece of information strengthens the chain – making it harder for offenders to operate and easier for police to act. Yesterday’s record arrests are a clear example of how this system works in practice.
Why Join Us
For businesses, being part of the partnership means:
The ability to share and receive real-time intelligence.
A seat at the table in city-wide efforts to reduce crime and disorder.
Collective protection from offenders who target the business community.
This is people power in action, where every member plays a role, and together, we achieve results no single organisation could deliver alone.
A huge thank you goes to Sgt Lauren Reid and Sgt Alec Barrett, whose support and leadership are vital in linking our chain of partnership working. Yesterday showed the chain was unbroken, every link holding strong.
