Another Successful Day of Partnership Working in Brighton
Yesterday was another reminder of how powerful our community is when we work together. Businesses, safety teams, and police joined forces to keep Brighton safer — and the results speak for themselves.
Incident 1 – Staff Safety First
In the morning, a member reported that a male had followed them to their workplace and made racially abusive comments. The report was logged on our secure DISC system, and shortly after, the Day Safety Marshals spotted him and shared his image via our Instant Messenger group.
Our Field Officer, working alongside Sussex Police on Operation Apprentice, attended quickly and the male was arrested.
But that’s not where the work ends, in fact, it’s just the start. This case will be raised at next week’s Brighton Intelligence Meeting (BIM), run by BCRP, where partners including police, outreach teams, and local services come together to reduce repeat offending, address underlying causes, and connect individuals to the right support.
Everyone deserves to feel safe at work. Hate crimes, verbal abuse, threats, or assaults will never be tolerated. If it happens to you or your team, report it, we will support you and work with our partners to take action.
Incident 2 – Community Spirit in Action
Later in the day, an eagle-eyed store manager recognised a wanted individual from a recent DISC alert, spotting him on his way into work. Thanks to quick updates between the store, Day Safety Marshals, our Field Officer, and police, he was arrested soon after.
In a separate success, another wanted person was also located and arrested thanks to information shared between members and partners.
Our wanted persons process is simple but powerful: each morning, Sussex Police colleagues Sgt Alec Barrett and Sgt Lauren Reid share updates in our secure Instant Messaging group (DISC IM). If you see someone on the list, call 999 with the reference number provided, share details over the BCRP radio, and post location/clothing updates in IM, it all helps keep eyes on them until police arrive.
Why This Matters
These results happened because:
Members were alert and looking out for each other
BCRP tools enabled quick, GDPR-compliant sharing of key information
Field Officers, safety teams, and police acted without delay
When we combine community spirit with the right tools, we don’t just respond to crime: we prevent harm, protect people, and make Brighton safer for everyone.
