Partnership Working Delivers Burglary Arrests to Support NTE

Over the past week, Brighton’s night-time economy was targeted by a series of burglaries and attempted break-ins, with offenders forcing entry to premises and seeking alcohol and cash drawers. In total, around 7–8 incidents were reported.

Thanks to the strength of our Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) network, these crimes did not go unanswered. As soon as the burglaries were reported, our Field Officer identified the suspects and provided ID statements to Sussex Police, allowing arrest warrants to be issued swiftly. Details of the suspects and their methods were circulated to our membership through DISC, and the individuals were raised on the Wanted galleries in partnership with police.

This meant businesses were alerted in real-time and able to stay vigilant. The system worked exactly as it should: one of the wanted individuals was recognised by the Night Safety Marshals, who had been briefed through DISC, while another was detained out of the area. As a direct result of this partnership working, the main offender has now been arrested, alongside an associate.

This is a fantastic example of how collective action makes a difference. By sharing information with us, checking DISC regularly, and supporting one another through the network, our members have helped make Brighton’s night-time economy safer for venues, staff, and customers alike.
