National BCRP Awareness Week: Behind the Scenes of Brighton’s NightSafe Briefing

As part of National BCRP Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on the partnership work that helps keep Brighton’s night-time economy safe, often before the public even see it.

Every Friday evening, ahead of the city’s busiest nights, Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) brings together venue managers, security teams, and Sussex Police for a focused Night-Time Economy Security Briefing.

Led by NightSafe Manager Kylie Wroe, these briefings are short, sharp, and rooted in one key aim: prevention.

They provide frontline teams with the latest intelligence they need to prepare for the weekend, including:

  • Individuals of concern who may be active in the city

  • Emerging patterns or trends identified from previous weekends

  • Key issues affecting venues and public spaces

  • Updates and insights from Sussex Police and wider partners

At the heart of this work is BCRP’s role as a united voice for the night-time economy, bringing together businesses, security teams, and partners to share information, raise concerns, and respond collectively to emerging risks. But this isn’t just about information sharing; it’s about empowering those working in the night-time economy to act early.

Security teams and venue staff are often the first to notice when something doesn’t feel right. Whether it’s a change in behaviour, a developing situation, or a known individual entering a venue, these early moments matter.

By sharing information across the partnership, those individual observations become part of a much bigger picture, supporting proactive policing, coordinated responses, and ultimately preventing incidents before they escalate.

This is what partnership working looks like in practice: connected, informed, and focused on keeping people safe.

The NightSafe Briefing is open to venue managers, security teams, and partners across the city, and we encourage businesses to attend wherever possible.

Because when information is shared, confidence grows. When confidence grows, action follows.
And together, that’s how we create a safer night-time economy for everyone.
