New Lane development shaping up

Did you know Brighton is getting a new lane?

Twelve months ago work began redeveloping the former Hanningtons department store in Brighton. The space is being reconfigured to create new stores on North Street alongside a new Lane for the city, providing unique spaces for the retail and leisure.

Andrew Foulds, Portfolio Director at Redevco comments, “Passers by can start to see significant investment and improvements now. The steel frames are completed on seven of the new units on Hanningtons Lane. The masonry and roof structure to units one and two are well underway and we are aiming to be weather tight by March. The groundworks to 16-19 North Street are complete, with the steel frame due to commence at the end of this month and the final stages of demolition to 16-19 North Street will take place from April.

“We are also installing larger, bolder and more permanent wayfinding signage and really cleaning up the North Street elevation. It is exciting to be able to walk around the site now and see our vision for this area coming to life. Our architect Morgan Carn has designed a scheme full of character and personality, very much in keeping with the world famous Lanes. This is a tight site for Westridge to work in and the build is extremely complex in places, but we are now on the home run and look forward to completion later this year.”
