Man accused of rape is banned from Sussex.

Abdenour Ben Ali, 28 years old, appeared at Hove Crown Court yesterday accused of raping the 18-year-old woman on the beach near the King’s Road Arches some time shortly prior to at about 04:30 on 07 September this year. He has denied the charge.

Ben Ali will face a trial by jury on 14 April but he was released on bail on the condition he is banned from entering Sussex other than to attend court or to attend appointments with his solicitor.

Algerian Ben Ali also had his passport confiscated while he is awaiting trial. He has lived in the UK for eight years and has indefinite leave to remain. He is currently applying for citizenship, the court was told.

Ben Ali had been restrained by door staff at a nightclub after witnesses reported a suspected sexual assault of a woman on the beach.
