National Recognition for Brighton BCRP

As part of National Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) Awareness Week, we are incredibly proud to share that Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership has received national recognition at the NABCP Awards.

The National Association of Business Crime Partnerships Awards celebrate innovative initiatives across the UK that demonstrate the power of partnership working in preventing crime and improving community safety.

Brighton BCRP was recognised across three categories:

🏆 Outstanding Community Safety & Night-Time Economy Initiative

The Power of Hello: Bystander Awareness and Predatory Behaviour Prevention

This initiative focuses on early intervention in the night-time economy, empowering venue staff and security teams to recognise behaviours that may indicate harassment, predatory behaviour or vulnerability before harm occurs.

Through bystander awareness training, partnership working with Sussex Police, and regular engagement with venues and security teams, the project encourages a “say what you see” approach, enabling staff to describe and escalate concerning behaviours clearly.

This helps police assess risk earlier while empowering frontline teams to safely disrupt situations that may pose a risk to others.

By building confidence in early intervention and encouraging simple actions such as checking in with someone who may appear uncomfortable, the initiative helps create a night-time economy that is actively hostile to predatory behaviour.

🏆 Innovation in Retail Crime Reduction

Early Intervention Youth Plan – Tackling Youth Crime at its Roots

Youth-related crime and anti-social behaviour can have a significant impact on businesses across the city.

Brighton BCRP’s Early Intervention Youth Plan takes a preventative, community-led approach, working with businesses, police, schools and youth organisations to identify concerns early and support young people before behaviours escalate.

Concerns raised through the BCRP intelligence network allow partners to build a clearer understanding of local issues and coordinate tailored interventions, including outreach work, mentoring and positive engagement opportunities.

By focusing on prevention and support rather than purely enforcement, the programme helps reduce harm to businesses while safeguarding young people and strengthening community resilience.

🥈 Highly Commended – Impactful Use of Data & Intelligence

Turning Data into Arrests: Intelligence at the Heart of the Community

This recognition highlights the role of intelligence sharing between businesses and Sussex Police in locating wanted offenders.

Through the BCRP DISC intelligence platform and Wanted Gallery, information about wanted individuals is securely shared with members who may encounter them in their daily work.

During 2025, 524 wanted individuals were circulated through the partnership network.

Because of information shared by BCRP members:

• 268 individuals (51%) were arrested directly following sightings or intelligence from businesses
• A further 85 arrests (16%) were made by officers using the same shared intelligence

By sharing information with those most likely to see offenders, including retail staff, security officers and venue teams, the partnership helps police locate individuals sooner and prevent further harm.

These awards recognise the strength of partnership working across Brighton.

From venue staff and security teams to police officers, youth workers and community partners, every report, conversation and piece of shared intelligence helps contribute to a safer city.

Together, this collaboration helps protect businesses, staff, residents and visitors across Brighton.
